Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
RMMH is a fee-for-service business, meaning we are considered "out of network.” While we do not take insurance as payment, there are insurance companies that reimburse for our services. If you would like a direct reimbursement from your insurance company, we will provide you with a detailed receipt after each session. RMMH is not responsible for any conversations or claims between the patient and the insurance provider. Keep in mind if you have an insurance plan with a high deductible, you will most likely have to pay out of pocket until you meet the deductible.
Does RMMH take insurance?
By not accepting insurance, we have the freedom to provide care that is in alignment with our ethics and integrity. For coverage, insurance companies require mental health conditions to fit neatly into predefined boxes similar to physical health conditions. Given that mental health conditions are far more complicated than physical health conditions, this need for specificity from insurance companies limits psychiatric care providers' ability to genuinely and efficiently treat patients as they see fit. Without the influence of a third-party, we can more holistically define and treat our patients' needs. We believe that being a psychiatric care provider you can trust is worth the added cost of being an out-of-network service. While the world continues to learn more about the complexity of mental health, there is hope that insurance companies will begin to address mental health conditions more appropriately. When this happens, we will gladly reconsider our out-of-network status.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
- Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
- Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call the Colorado Division of Insurance at 303-894-7490 or 1-800-930-3745.
What are RMMH's current rates?

Payment is due at the time of appointment. We accept major credit cards, cash, and check.
Do I receive a diagnosis and treatment plan on the first visit?
In most cases, adults/adolescents receive an assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plan options during the first visit. Children under 12 do not receive the full diagnosis and treatment plan options until the second visit.
Does RMMH only see female patients?
We serve patients of all sexes and genders for a variety of issues. Furthermore, our specialization in reproductive psychiatry and perinatal mental health is not exclusive to female patients. Both female and male partners are susceptible to experiencing mental health struggles during family planning, pregnancy, and postpartum. Regardless of your gender or parental status, if you are struggling with your mental health, please do not hesitate to contact us.
What is the difference between a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatrist?
As Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP), we provide a similar service as psychiatrists. We assess, diagnose, treat, and prescribe medication for our patients, dependent on their needs. As nurses, caring is at the forefront of everything we do. We use evidence and empathy to create treatment plans that are personalized, effective, and transparent.
At our office, we choose not to provide therapy. Several therapists in the area are highly skilled, whereas there are few psychiatry-related providers. As psychiatric care providers, we feel that we can best serve our patients through our evidence-based approach to medication prescribing and management. We genuinely care for our patients and want to see each one feel better and graduate from our practice. If you need a recommendation for a therapist, let us know. We would love to connect you with a therapist we trust.
Does RMMH provide therapy?
I don't have a therapist. Do I need one to receive treatment at RMMH?
You do not need to have/see a therapist to receive our services. However, we highly recommend that you do. We believe that patients achieve the best outcomes when they are actively engaged in their mental health through treatment care and speaking with a therapist.
Is RMMH seeing patients in person?
To ensure our patients' and providers' safety, we are not seeing any patients in person due to COVID-19. All appointments are conducted online through a HIPPA compliant videoconferencing platform (doxy.me or MS Teams) until further notice.
